Teams
A team is the people you share workspaces with. Share a workspace and everyone in the team gets its files, folders and instructions. Your chats always stay private.
Teams need you to be signed in to Starfish. If you are signed out, Settings → Team and Settings → Sync show a Sign in button. After you sign in, you come straight back to Settings.
Create a team
- Open Settings → Team.
- Click Create team and give it a name.
You become the team's owner and can invite people next.
Invite people
- Open your team in Settings → Team.
- Click Invite people, then Create invite code.
- Copy the code and send it to the person.
Each code is valid for 7 days. Pending invites are listed under Invitations, where you can revoke one.
Invite links and email invites are coming soon.
Join a team
- Open Settings → Team and click Join with a code (or Join if you are already in a team).
- Paste the code you were sent. You see the team before you join.
- Click Join.
Joining shares nothing of yours. Workspaces shared with the team arrive on your next sync.
Roles
- Owner -- manages the team. Only the owner can delete the team or hand it on to someone else, and the new owner must already be an admin.
- Admin -- can invite and remove members, and rename the team.
- Member -- works in the shared workspaces and adds their own files.
Share a workspace
- Open the workspace and click the Private button at the top. Once the workspace is shared, the button shows the team's name.
- Under Who has access, pick your team.
- Under Teammates can, choose Can edit or Can view.
| Access | What teammates can do |
|---|---|
| Can edit | Change and delete the files, folders and instructions in the workspace. |
| Can view | Open everything in the workspace and add their own files. Only the person who added something can change it. |
Only the person who shared the workspace, or a team owner or admin, can change its access. To stop sharing, click Make private again.
Changes reach your team on their next sync, usually within a few minutes.
Remove and re-add someone
Open the team, find the person under Members, and choose Remove from team.
- They lose access to every workspace shared with the team.
- What they shared or added stays with the team, owned by its owner.
- Their private work stays with them.
To add them back, send them a new invite code. The team's shared workspaces reach them again on their next sync.
Delete a shared workspace
Only the person who shared the workspace, or a team owner or admin, can delete it. Deleting a shared workspace removes it for everyone in the team, and Starfish says so before you confirm.
To delete a whole team, make its shared workspaces private first, then type the team name to confirm. Workspaces and chats are not deleted.
Your team on the phone
On your phone, Settings → Team shows who is in your team and which workspaces it shares. Manage the team on your Mac. If the phone asks you to sign in, sign in to Starfish on your Mac and your teams then show up on the phone.
