Studio

Studio makes slide decks. Describe the deck, answer a question or two, and Studio builds it while you watch. Then edit, tweak, present, export and share every slide.

Open Studio in the sidebar, between Media and Workspace. It is there in Chat mode and Developer mode.

Start a deck

  1. Open Studio. The page asks What are we making?
  2. Describe the deck in the box, for example "Make a client-ready presentation for our new service".
  3. Optional: click the paperclip (Attach material) to add text, Markdown, CSV, JSON, HTML files or pictures.
  4. Optional: pick a look from the look menu: Auto look, a saved brand, a preset, or Add a brand from Drive.
  5. Optional: pick the build quality (see below).
  6. Click the arrow (Start this deck), or press Cmd + Enter.

Your decks show under Recent on the Studio page.

Questions

Studio asks only what it needs, up to five short questions, and skips anything you already said. If your request already names the audience, the purpose and the content, it asks nothing and starts building.

Each question has a few answers to tap, plus Something else to type your own and You decide. Questions you skip get Studio's choice. Click Build now when you are ready.

Studio also asks Add illustrations to this deck? The answer is Yes, add illustrations unless you change it. Say "no illustrations", "text-only" or "with illustrations" in your request and Studio does not ask.

Quick, Polished or Deep reasoning

The build quality menu has three choices:

  • Quick -- a strong first version with the shortest wait.
  • Polished -- a more careful model. Slower.
  • Deep reasoning -- the longest thinking, for complex source material. Slowest.

A deck you start from a chat uses Polished. Every other deck starts on Quick. Your own pick always wins.

Steer while it builds

While the deck is building, keep typing in the Studio chat to add information or change any part. Your message shows Queued, then Applied once Studio has used it. Studio adds your changes to the slides it has not written yet. Click Stop on the progress pill to stop the build.

If a build pauses, Studio says Paused at N of M and keeps the finished slides. Click Continue building to carry on.

Edit slides

The toolbar above the slide has these tools:

  • Interact -- try the slide: click reveals, answers, tabs and buttons.
  • Select -- click to select, drag to move, drag a corner to resize, double-click to edit text.
  • Comment -- click any element to comment on it.
  • Edit text -- click any text to change it.

Undo (Cmd + Z) and Redo (Shift + Cmd + Z) work for every change. More tools has Notes (speaker notes), Checks and Refresh design. Refresh design gives the deck a new look and keeps your words.

Comments

Click Comment, click an element and write what should change, for example "Make this a bar chart, and use our green". Add as many comments as you like. Comments lists them, and you can edit or delete each one.

Click Apply to make the changes. A comment that could not be applied stays open with the reason.

Versions

Every change saves a version. Click Saved at the top to open Versions. Preview shows an earlier version and Restore brings it back. While you preview, Back to current returns to the latest version.

Tweaks

Click Tweaks to change the whole deck at once:

  • Accent colour -- one of the deck's colours or your own.
  • Type size -- Smaller, Default or Larger.
  • Spacing -- Tighter, Default or Roomier.
  • Corners -- Square, Default or Round.

Reset to the original look undoes all tweaks. Each tweak is saved as a version.

Pictures

Studio adds icons, brand logos and illustrations, in one matching style per deck.

  • Redraw a picture -- comment on it, for example "Make it warmer, show a team photo, or remove it", then apply.
  • Add your own -- click Add your pictures and choose From this Mac, or From Google Drive when Google Workspace is connected.

Interactive slides

Decks can have parts you click: reveals, tabs, steps, knowledge checks, choices that branch, polls, flip cards, hotspots, accordions, a clickable agenda, timers and builds. They work the same in the editor (use Interact), in Present, in a shared link and in the downloaded web page.

Training, onboarding and workshop decks get knowledge checks, with a score near the end, such as "3 of 4 knowledge checks answered correctly".

Present

Click Present to show the deck full screen.

  • Next slide: Right arrow, Down arrow, Space or Page Down.
  • Previous slide: Left arrow, Up arrow or Page Up.
  • P opens presenter view with the next slide and your notes.
  • F toggles full screen. Esc exits.

Export

Open Export and choose:

  • PDF -- sharp text, fonts included, links kept.
  • PowerPoint (exact) -- every slide looks identical, with speaker notes.
  • PowerPoint (editable) -- editable text and shapes.
  • Images -- a PNG of every slide. This slide saves only the current one.
  • Web page -- one file that works offline, with its interactive parts.
  • Outline, Plain text and Design data for the deck's words and structure.

Share

Click Share to make a link. Choose who has access: Only those invited, Anyone in the team or Public, and add people as Viewer or Editor. Copy link copies it. People open the deck in their browser, interactive parts included, without signing in to Starfish. Opening Share again updates the link to your latest version.

Send to Google Drive or ClickUp

When a deck is finished, the Studio chat shows Google Drive and Send to ClickUp. If the app is not connected yet, the button says Connect Google Drive or Connect ClickUp and opens Marketplace.

  1. Click the button. Studio makes a PDF of the deck.
  2. Studio asks one question: which Drive folder or which ClickUp list. Its best match is marked. You can also pick Something else or You decide, then Continue.
  3. If the step needs your OK, the approval card shows right in Studio.

Studio then replies with a link, such as Saved to Google Drive or Sent to ClickUp. If you do not allow the step, nothing is sent and your deck stays saved.

From a chat to Studio

In Chat mode, when you ask for a deck in a long chat, Starfish offers Continue building in Studio? Choose Yes, open Studio or No, build it here.

On yes, Studio opens with your request filled in and the chat attached. Studio reads the whole chat, its workspace, pictures, documents and any brand colours or fonts you named, and asks only what the chat did not answer. Press send to start. The chat gets a link to the deck.

Memory and brand

Studio remembers your brand, tone and choices per client and uses them next time. It keeps them per workspace, so clients never mix. It can read brand colours and logos from your chat or your uploads. Ordinary photos are never treated as a brand.

The Studio page shows Studio remembers your brand with a Review button. What Studio remembers lists the brand, style and choices it learned. Change or remove any line. Only Studio uses this memory; it never reaches your chats.

Told when it is ready

The bell and a Mac notification tell you when a deck needs answers, is ready, has paused or has been updated. Click it to open the deck.

Studio on the phone

Open a deck on your phone, edit its text and use Tweaks. See Starfish on your phone.

Earlier website concepts

Studio now makes slide decks only. Website concepts you made earlier stay in Studio, marked read only, to view, download as HTML or delete.
